More Great Installation Ideas Below...
In September of 2009 Canadian Bat Houses launched BH 2.0, an updated version of our product line which reflected much-appreciated feedback from customers and the results of our own ongoing research. The photos below were sent in by owners of the original Canadian Bat Houses, which included a decorative grille which is no longer in production. The new line which you see elsewhere on our site absorbs more sunlight with the result of increased average overnight temperatures inside the units, making them even more attractive to our batty friends.
The Advantage of Back-to-Back Installs
Over the course of a season the angle of the sun changes enough that a single bat house will develop different internal temperature zones. Two houses installed back to back will increase both the range and size of these zones, allowing more bats more room to migrate within your installation to find their preferred temperature, all season long. This will increase the long-term success of your installation and allow for a larger colony.
These houses were original BH 1.0 models. The grilles have been removed to increase the black surface area and the houses' ability to absorb sunlight.
